About Great Mirror
Great Mirror is a personal archive of travel writing accompanied by photographs — one curator's decades-long, opinionated atlas of the places he has visited. The writing is the point; the photographs illustrate it.
The archive holds 876 chapters across 79 places, 25,586 photographs in all. Each chapter is a walk through somewhere — a city, a coastline, a quarter — with prose that ranges from a single dry sentence to several paragraphs.
You can wander it by place, follow it through time, scan the full index, or search for a remembered moment.
On the photographs
Images are presented as a truthful record. Corrections a darkroom could have made — exposure, straightening, sensible compression — are welcome; nothing here invents detail that was not in front of the lens.
