Aerial Town Views
The British had a huge influence on the development of Sudan's cities and towns. These aerial photos of Gedaref and Nyala show that the influence was not limited to Khartoum.
Although the British ruled Sudan for less than 60 years, they laid out neatly gridded towns across the country. The precision of the grid (in this case, probably Gadaref) is amazing, especially in contrast to the informal tracks everywhere else in the region.
